How does an APTUS apprenticeship work?

  1. Check you're eligible
    • You must be 16 or older by May of the year you’re applying. There is no upper age limit.
    • You need to live in the UK and have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship
    • Have four National 5s (grades A-C) or GCSEs (A-B) in Maths and English
  2. Complete the questionnaire

Complete a short scenario-based, online questionnaire called 'Precise Fit'.

  3. Complete the form

Complete our online application form with details including school grades and a personal statement.

  4. Complete two aptitude tests

If your application is successful you'll be sent a link to two online aptitude tests you must complete. We recommend doing some practice tests before completing the assessment - you can find some helpful links on the SHL website. If you have a disability, let us know before completing the aptitude tests so we can adjust them accordingly.

There are two assessments to complete:

    • 1 - Situational judgement assessment

You will be given a set of scenarios and asked to make a judgement as to whether the scenario given is more effective or less effective. There is no right or wrong answer, it's about what you consider to be the best fit. The total assessment time is approximately 35 minutes based on the time you'll need to read instructions, practise exercises and complete the assessment.

    • 2 - General ability assessment

This assessment evaluates your inductive and deductive reasoning, and your numerical ability. It measures your ability to make decisions and draw conclusions from numerical or statistical data.

  5. Attend interview

If you've completed the aptitude tests, you'll be invited to attend an interview in person or online.

  6. Accept the conditional offer

If you're successful, you will be given a conditional offer, subject to passing an OEUK medical. Please make sure you return the completed offer of acceptance before the 'respond by date'.

  7. Take a medical

To work offshore, you must pass the OEUK medical before starting the apprenticeship. This will consist of:

    • Height
    • Weight
    • BMI
    • Basic vision (including colour blindness)
    • Urinalysis
    • Pulse & blood pressure
    • Lung function test
    • Audiogram
    • Consultation with a doctor
  8. Receive your contract

We will issue your contract as soon as we receive your OEUK medical certificate.
